what are we going to do with the kids 1 mile? at the mo only 3 have entered - a 6 y o, a 9 y o and a 12 y o. seems a bit odd to let just the 3 of them run around in their own race when, given their ages, they'll probably be quite far apart.
as much as it would be great to have a kids race of their own, my 9 y o would be happy to run in the adult race (the 8 mm group)

I think they should just go in one of the groups which is most closely aligned with the finish time. RFJ's boy (the 12 year old) is capable of running quite fast, and Bobbi (Gobi's daughter) would be fine with a group of 9-10 minute milers.

really simple
1 person with a watch shouts times as you finish
you remember time and report to clip board person to be recorded

If kids are coming, they should only run the mile if the parents are confident they'll be ok. Ideally they'd be supervised by parents, or other adults

Agree with Gobi - that's the easiest way to do it, and minimum chance of error

That's ok... just shout the seconds out and people make a note what the last number they heard was as they crossed the line.

fun to a point but I like the idea of a timer, only relies on honesty for people to relay their times to the clipboard holder
T
they all get the same bloody time :¬)

Hmm, I'm not sure about all this. I want chip timing and my 400m split times sent via text message to all my friends and live streaming video on the internet.

I'm honest, Gobi
*runs off to adjust prediction to sub-4 min mile*
