I know who wrote that piece (I think). Comes from a very good running and orienteering family. |

I think there might be *many* places available as given the current pausing on restrictions until August in Scotland, the S6D can't happen I think? They need the areas of all 6 days to be in level zero (whatever that means) IIRC. |

They’ll be lucky. Everything postponed until at least mid-July. Announced today.

Anyone ever done Oringen? Considering it for 2022, given it's only in Uppsala. Wondering what it's like. Comparable to S6D? |

Done fair number over the years fozzy going back to the mid-80s, though not in the last 10 years. Certainly back then it was on a whole different level to the S6D (think BOC v local colour coded). The level of organisation was fantastic, on a level I've never seen for orienteering in the UK (e.g. convoys of buses from the EC to the races with the police ensuring they had priority for the whole journey, whole roads closed to enable competitors to cross safely, hot showers in every assembly field etc.). Yet despite the numbers it was often possible to completely alone in some fantastic terrain. The terrain clearly varies depending on the venue and often there are some compromises towards the end to accommodate the event arena but in general the level of technical level of the orienteering was at least on a par with the best in the UK. I always felt that I came back from the O-Ringen a better orienteer and it's definitely something every orienteer should experience. The only other places I've had a similar orienteering experience are at the Fin5, Tio Mila and Jukola.

That sounds great. I did my first S6D event last Saturday at Creag Meadaigh. 5km uphill to the start ( I went to wrong start and added a K). Course was 5k (4.1k) mostly downhill across boggy & rocky moorland. Loved it, should do more of these big events.

Seconding all that flyingfinn said about ORingen. The terrain for the Uppsala event is *difficult* - took me two or three days training on Lunsen to be able to navigate reliably at anything more than walking pace. Link to some old maps and courses: omaps.worldofo.com |
