Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Easier to see stuff in other people's games, that's why it's good to look at them as it hopefully helps in your games in the future.

Ahhhhhh - thanks Meglet & SPR! Makes sense now you've given it a different context.

Yes, it's easy to spot these things in hindsight and also when you're not directly involved. The fog of war never seems to lift for me.

I also think it’s hard to give up your pieces when sometimes that’s what you need to do. I actually feel I do much better in the middle game once the board is a bit emptier.

For rapid chess, I like the increment time controls - there are a couple of variants, you either get n seconds added each move, or your clock doesn’t run for the first n seconds of each move. Only the former allows you to build up a time bank but both eliminate the mad scramble to avoid a flag drop which ceases to really be chess imo. And yet the games are still fast.

Yes Weath, the fog especially occurs in live, at least in daily you have time to calm down and reassess (if you can resist pressing the button on your first instinct).

This just made me realise I usually have some kind of plan in daily which kind of grounds me but in live I don't even realise I don't have a plan in the moment, lol

Meglet, that's one of the reasons to swap pieces once up in material. It magnifies your advantage and makes the game simpler as less threats from opp. Did you see my post on the other page about bishop takes pawn?

jda - I think chess.com uses the former. I agree about mad dash. For IMs upwards it makes sense as their insane prep means they can get through the first few moves at probably less than a sec per move

Late night result post - managed to win my other team game against the Runners after a good battle.
Match score now 8-8 so it’s going down to the wire:)

interestingly weath, the move that set up my checkmate was considered a blunder, I was kinda hoping you saw the move as a way of getting my queen safer and didn't see my real purpose!

Well done Jules, bit of a relief after taking that other draw :-)

FWIW being a pawn up in a good position I’d never have done that! Unless it really was the final half point for a match victory.

Iaincr - see my post a couple of pages ago. If Weath had played the right moves following your queen move, you'd have lost your bishop and queen for his queen.

Nice work Jules and nice king fork.

Brian has a win and at least a draw coming too I would think.
