Well played, Meglet - that was a really enjoyable game. It was at a steady pace but kept moving; thank you :)
79.3% accuracy is a big improvement for me but I missed 5 opportunities to win 🙄 I'll have to watch the replay to see how I should have finished. I don't understand stalemate yet so something for me to study.

Found I had a message on the chess.com website from a couple of days ago (mainly use the app) saying I had 7 points restored to my total due to recent opponent violating fair play :-O

Oh that's interesting! Stalemate is when there are no legal moves. I was wondering if it would be possible, it seems your promotion to queen closed off the only square I could previously move to. Just goes to show it's worth keeping trying rather than resigning when material advantage seems against you.

You played really well, in fact I think we've both improved a lot since our previous game.

fwiw I think you should have tried to promote a pawn much earlier-I know I kept messing with that!

78% accuracy for me, but still 6 blunders. I was hoping you'd resist taking my queen as you'd lose yours, but you did.

On the app, under drills, there's a checkmate trainer in which you have to force mate with different pieces. I've found it very useful in getting a better idea of how to approach endgames (not to mention extremely frustrating - I keep reaching the 50 move limit trying to force mate with two bishops!)

I was going with promoting pawns but changed tack when you pre-empted their transition :) so decide to gang up on your King instead; that backfired! I still don't understand the difference between stalemate and checkmate.

I think stalemate is where the king is not actually in check but can't move into any square because it would become check. And there are no other moves that can be made.

The only difference is that you are not directly threatening my king. So you had all the squares around me covered, but not the one I was actually on. So I’m still alive but can’t move. If I had other moveable pieces it wouldn’t have been stalemate, I think.

One to watch out for when the king is shuffling between two squares.
