Dangling that unguarded bishop in front of his rook must have smoked him out James;)

Mac - Nothing wrong with playing defensively though is there? It's a style and just got to try and find the openings.

Thanks for the sleuthing. Thought that game was going ok until I made a couple of silly slips.

If I'm an almost total beginner and just trying this out, should I play on chess.com for a while before joining the group, or just dive right in?

SPR, I agree, but the combination of that and taking an average of between 20 and 30 hours per move is too tedious for casual play. It's supposed to be about fun and intellectual challenge, not sheer endurance. If the team gets enough points for the win overall I shall resign.

Dive right in DS. I did and it’s ok. There’s quite a few of us at the bottom! :)

DS, I’d dive in. We re setting up leagues which are in ranking order. On chess.com there are lessons and a 7 day trial to get access to them. Start reviewing them as you play your first couple of games against the lower ranked Fetchies. On the league table linked over there -> there are links to everyone’s profile on chess.com and you can challenge people.

DS, dive right in.

I’m a beginner too.

I found the games against the computer useful, especially if you turn on all the ‘help’ at first so it suggests moves to you. But I’ve found the computers nothing like playing a real person and have learned so much more from real games.

Fair enough Mac.

Dive right in DS. The lowest ranking you can start with on chess.com is 800, so if you're worried about starting to high up in the leagues, you can always ask if Fetch can start you in the bottom league.
