Omg Ally that's awful, I've not heard of that before! I will definitely watch out for that in future. The conditions at the weekend were very calm, far too hot really.

We did a Corbett near Arrochar, Beinn an Lochain, a great ridge walk. But at the top there was 100s of these black insects, like big flying ants🤬

Ally I am currently covered in midgie bites, I thought I'd be alright this far East, but no. The insects are the worst thing about the hills, and they always go for me!

LOL. If they had any faith in their product they wouldn’t need that ;) :)

Honestly none of the midgie products work for me, I've tried them all 😕

Have you tried incognito Mrs S? It worked really well for me on mosquitos and other flying bitey things abroad. No guarantee that the Scottish midges won't lap it up, but worth a try.

I've not heard of that The Scribbler, I might give that a try, thanks.

I've tried this stuff, it keeps mozzies at bay but the midgies just laugh at it. Smidge is the only way in my experience, that or lots (and I mean lots) of Skin So Soft. You have to literally dowse yourself in the stuff to keep the West Highland midgies away

Has anyone got ideas/recommendations of UK (probably English due to time constraints) city breaks, whilst camping in the van? We’ve a dog so would require dog friendly sites, and we’d like the site to be an easy walk or bus ride into the city.

Despite my jocularity above, I do heartily recommend smidge. I met one of the incredibly talented scientists behind it a few years ago when she came to the sailing club to learn how to sail her Laser (she'd just gone and splashed out on a brace of them, with all the sparkly bits and a double trailer, before realising she didn’t know how to rig one!!). As I said, incredibly talented scientist…. Common sense? Errr, not so much ;) :)

We’ve used smidge for the past few years and it’s pretty damn good.
