We have never cooked in the van, the most has been to boil a kettle and don't use the sink either....

We use our hob all the time! And the grill! We don’t use the sink much! Little bit of washing up! Although if we are plugged in we also have an electric hob we get out!

My gut feeling is a flexible cooking solution preferable, a fridge would be handy, a sink probably not - would use a water bottle and a bowl.

Fields - we have a coolbox
I guess as my van is really only an overnighter and I don't wild park or anything like that I have different needs.
Most of the time i just need to carry dogs and bikes.
That said the weekend just past highlighted a few things so planning is afoot

I could not do without a fridge!
I found it inconceivable that a couple wild camping with 2 children in the Isle of Wight didn’t have a working fridge!
We even have ice lollies stashed in our freezer! There’s nothing like a callipo when you’re on the last leg of a 24 hour race!

I guess I view it as a marginal upgrade on camping rather than a mobile house. As such, the only thing that really matters is a decent mattress (I've never slept well on the ground) and some proper shelter from the rain. TBH we haven't used it much but it's been great when we did.
Anyone using/thinking of an EV camper? I have my eye on the new Vivaro e-van, but it's only a vague aspiration at this point. I guess in some ways it's particularly ill-suited for that use as the range is limited and wild parking will preclude charging.

jda, I haven't thought about an EV camper, but when I did NC500 there was at least one person on the forums that I noticed did it in one. Not much use really to your potential thought process, but it did strike me as an interesting thing to do on something like the NC500. Of course, NC500 isn't particularly remote but I have no idea of the charging point station along the route. Even I (with a fairly economical diesel van) felt I needed to have at least some consideration of the fuel gauge as I was doing the route.

We love our fridge. Always keep cans of coke for drinking after an ultra/hill run.
