Booked our van in with the local guy who now has 2 premises! Mr Jelly went down the weekend before to make sure they had everything to do the job and was reassured. (We were having a webasto heating system put in)
It sat there all week, didn’t move, hubby picked it up Friday as we needed it for the weekend. Not done and they haven’t even got the parts, so the guy basically lied to his face! It won’t be going back there although I’m not sure where else we can take it. Seems this guy thinks he can do what he likes as he has the monopoly on vans here!

That's a shame - sounds very much like a guy who set himself up as a VW conversion specialist local to me. The quality of his work was good, but admin absolutely dreadful and he messed people around terribly, lots of stories of vans standing for months etc. Eventually he went out of business, I guess word got around.

Yes and the trouble now is hubbie saying we will take it somewhere else but there aren’t any others close! This guy does have a bit of a monopoly on van work round here!

That seems to be a very common story. There was a guy local to here that was exactly the same. Started with a great reputation for quality, rapidly deteriorated to one of missed deadlines, broken promises and going out of business. I think often the back plot is they did a van for themselves and made a great job of it and thought I like doing this, I could make a living out of it (often encouraged by friends who have admired their initial conversion). But though the quality is good they are firstly poor businessmen/administrators and secondly can't do the quality at a fast enough rate to be commercially viable i.e. the key bit they're overlooking is that it took them 3 years to do that initial conversion and it was double the planned budget without costing the time!

Email from Brownhills. Our van isn't in the latest batch from Elddis. Our salesperson is on holiday next week and is hoping it will be there when he returns the week after. That's cutting it fine for us collecting on 29th.

Problem in these parts is there is so much work that people will wait months and on top of that the people who do work and prioritising the maximum dollar so full builds.
Hard to just get little things done and I also found that even after a big job there is not a lot of loyalty as again there is so much work.
Looks like this winter I may end up giving in and doing my van with a friend :¬0

We saw some VW's for sale at ridiculous prices the other day - its madness
Have booked a couple of nights away from Thursday in Rye, Sussex. Will give us a chance to test the heater 😳

Mmmm, it might be the time to sell. We're seriously considering getting a bigger van.
