All the best KS. It's a race on my wish list. I have some new Leica bins coming this week. I needed some pocket sized. Very excited. |

LTT in the front garden today. First time I've seen any for ages so a welcome sight. They always seem to be very happy with life.

I was looking out at the animal tracks in the snow of a gulley under the cable car this morning and was delighted to spot a couple of chamois.

HowFar?
I think I missed spotting an otter on Saturday morning, Chrisity. I had wandered down to the side of the lough. There's a little man made inlet that I assume was dug out for boats. There was a huge swirl right in the corner of the inlet. It was too big for a water bird to have made it and I would expect the pike to out in deeper water at this time of year. I have seen evidence of otters in the field (scat and leftover bits of fish) although I have never actually seen an otter there. I have seen an otter about a mile away - although, because of peninsulas, it would be more than a mile travelling just by the lough. I did see a fox on Sunday as I was cycling on Sunday and a mouse ran along edge of the grass verge as I was cycling home on Saturday evening. We're gearing up for the Big Schools' Bird watch this week and then we'll be encouraging children to take part in the Garden watch this weekend. |

Never seen an otter, despite one being in the near vicinity at the moment. Know it is on the river and the Rhuddlan Nature Reserve, just trying to find out best place to spot it. Had the goldfinches back in the garden today for a rare visit and on my run I saw a couple of ducks in the River Conwy which are continuing my neverending quest to see the difference between teal and wigeon. Nice and close, had a really good look, but still not totally convinced at what I'm seeing. All the info online and on here suggests that teal are a bit smaller than mallards? Anyway, beautiful birds to see, whatever they were, definite couple, I know that much :D

Male teal have the green eye stripe. The pictures online of american wigeon (with a similar eye stripe) might confuse you, British ones have the palish top of the head thing, and pinkish breast. Teal are very compact, and make a lovely waderish piping sound. Female teal more like a small female mallard. But teal really always do look small.

3 GSW on Saturday appearing to be having a tree top battle over territory 😀 Also a little egret flyingvaround the woods/ponds on our local dog walk route. There is a resident heron, but we've not seen a little egret there. Plus a trip to Brandon Marsh yesterday and I spotted a male blackcap. |

Took dog out this morning and spotted a flock of waxwing . . . directly across the road! Big flock 40+ birds systematically stripping a neighbour's berries. Amazing sight (and sound, a very high-pitched shrill trilling)
