Come to think of it, I've seen (and heard for that matter) a few very large formations of geese in a few places over the last two weeks or so.

Old Croc
we get them every year - they feed in the fields behind the woods then head back to the bay later on, usually so low that we can hear the wing beats.

We are on the Trans Pennine route for pinkies. They swap coasts if food is scarce over winter. Magnificent sight and sound

Hobby spotted at Caerlaverock WWT yesterday by the guy who manages the site.

No sign of it today. I've never seen one.

Had some birds in the garden this morning - fairly sure warbler family. Really small and once I stood still, got fairly close to me. White tummy, brown back. I’m not knowledgeable with warblers, so would guess reed as I my garden has a stream down one side, water plants and a big burn at the end of the garden that feeds into a distillery. What do threadsters think?

Chiffchaff maybe. Difficult if not singing. Have you checked out dunnock?

No chiffchaff call. The call is a single “peep”. I realise birds have lots of calls, but no chiffchaffing at all. Definitely not a dunnock. The underside and front were white and it was smaller than a dunnock - blue tit size but thinner. I’m now thinking garden warbler as I re-checked chiffchaff and the birds had no yellowing on them at all. Next time I see them, I’ll check the leg colour.

Garden warbler isn’t really a garden bird and really a quite illusive skills bird generally

DT, I've actually seen garden warblers in a garden-y environment in north Aberdeenshire (Pennan), not a million miles from where Red Squirrel is, so it may be that they behave differently in that part of the world.

I remember a discussion on here about garden warblers and know they’re not aptly named. My garden is rural. I back on to fields and have water boundaries on 2 sides of my garden plus woodland all around. I’ll hopefully get a closer look tomorrow if they’re back - there were quite a few of them in the trees and they’re not shy.
