Nice flock of linnets yesterday, while I was running a relay race along Norfolk coast path. Then a good view of a marsh tit while having a celebratory pint outside a pub afterwards. Today, a singing chiffchaff.

Brief and surprising heron visit this afternoon 😂

Nothing like a confused dinosaur landing in your garden close to your patio doors and flapping off fast when it realised no pond to fish in!

Cetti’s warbler heard this morning close to our boat on the Broads confirmed with Merlin. I was surprised how long my phone mic took to pic the bird up

I've had that, DT. Never seems to pick up nuthatch properly, not sure why. And there were times in Bulgaria where there was a very clear bird song or call, going on for some time, which it just shrugged its shoulders at and I never found out what the (interesting, non-British) bird was.

Cetti's is instantly recognisable once you've heard one a couple of times - ridiculously loud and explosive song from a small skulking LBJ.

oh, I'm relieved to read of the warbler songs being noted. I thought I must be delirious when I heard a chiff the other day. I was very sure about the Cetti's I heard - they are unmistakable - but also doubted myself on that one too!

The ivy is in full flower in the garden and it's covered in pollinators. There's a warbler hanging out and snaffling them flycatcher-style. I'll never be able to identify it though as I'm almost as bad at warblers as I am waders! [or gulls / other sea birds tbh]

I have a theory that the light levels in early autumn are similar to spring and the chiffs think it’s that time of year again

Dubious about that, DT. Why only chiffs?

Plus chiffs are first to arrive; the others aren’t familiar with mid March light levels

Am I making it up that robins also tend to sing a lot now similar to spring. I've certainly noticed a few the last couple of weeks though that may be because most other birds have stopped singing so their voices are more obvious again.
