@J2R If you’d been in Asia, I would have said a coucal for the bird you describe. I don’t think they’re seen in mainland Europe.

I'm thinking the biggest likelihood is actually mistle thrush, tbh, and I'm just getting overexcited. It's just that they had that air of unfamiliarity about them, and I'm very familiar with mistle thrushes.

Spotted flycatcher today, and dippers! Several dippers on my favourite river, where I'd seen them before but not yet on this holiday. A day with a dipper is a good day. Also two warblers which I have frustratingly not been able to identify (they're hard at the best of times without the aid of the song). Multiple grey wagtails, too.

A sky full of swallow here. Suspect they’re having a feed up before their winter hols but good to see a decent number
