Not a shrike, no. They are a bird I'm quite familiar with, in some part thanks to visits to Bulgaria, where they are quite common in scrubland. Thanks anyway!

Just saw a red-backed shrike again now, perched on a nearby post.

Also reasonably convinced that the green woodpecker we saw today was in fact a grey-headed woodpecker.

Great stuff, Ronnie! House martins still going into nests here in Bulgaria. They continue breeding late, these hirundines. Merlin ID has picked up red-rumped swallows around me but I can't say I've spotted one myself. I have seen them before here, though |

House martins on nests here too. I've seen the adults previously, but spotted them going into the nest this morning.

Clear view of red-rumped swallow today. Plus a sighting of what looked like some kind of finch but which was unknown to me. I'll have to wait until I get back to my Collins Guide. Also tree sparrows. Bee-eaters again.

Huge numbers of swallows today for some reason. I feel it's the final hoorah before they leave |
