Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Heron took off as I passed it, only just dodged the 💩 it offloaded - and there was a *lot* of it!

Then nearly got taken out by a sparrow hawk that was swooping down to some poor little brown jobbie as I emerged from a gap between two hedges
Haven't seen one for ages, they used to be more common here.

2 Jays this morning on the grass.

Nuthatches on the feeders and flycatcher zooming around.

Also heard siskins for the first time in a few weeks. Noisy buggers.

Someone mentioned a white wagtail the other day. I assumed that they were the same as a pied wagtail, but there are a pair in my garden right now and they appear larger and skinnier than the pied wagtails I’m used to seeing.

Pied and white wagtails are both the same species, but different subspecies. Pied is the common one we see in the UK and is relatively sedentary, white is widespread on continental Europe but is passage migratory and so visits us in early Spring and late Summer/Autumn. Lovely birds, smart pale grey mantle and just look cleaner and more sparkly somehow :-)
