Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The Latin species name is Motacilla alba and the white subspecies is Motacilla alba alba so I suspect so, although I've never heard of alba wagtail as a common/English name.

Well, I never knew that! Didn't know you got them here at all. Only ever seen them abroad (where, of course, they take the place of pied wagtails).

Yeah, that was me. First time I'd seen one before. While I was on holiday in the hebrides. I actually only knew they existed a few weeks ago.

Interesting that they are so closely related.

A grand day out to RSPB Lakenheath yesterday where Bitterns were highly visible, cranes less so (but I have seen them before), there was a swimming snake and some voles.

@icemaiden , fabulous! Highly visible bitterns are are a treat!

@Derby Tup , by contrast, I've been pleased on a couple of runs recently to still be hearing the blackcaps and the chiffchaffs doing their thing, and blackbirds continue to sing. It is definitely quieter than it was, though.

Enjoy it while it lasts @J2R

I did see three swift yesterday. I said to my wife I doubt I have seen them more than ten times this ‘summer’
