Yesterday I saw two pairs of swans, one with two cygnets, the other with one. They looked freshly hatched, probably a fifth of the size of the cygnets in my local park. They seem pretty late hatching.

Bad bird day today. Blackbird fledglong was looking a bit rough last night hoping around outside our back door so we put out some meal worms and water and it was dead on the steps this morning. It did eat and drink a bit but I suspect already injured. Then found a dead sparrow in the veg patch this afternoon 😭 Have been mobbed by starlings for two days in a row though. Never saw them last year. Having squirrel issues, will have to upgrade our feeders I think to cage ones. |

Some great swift flying displays all morning long. Probably been up to around 20 swooping through the houses at one point.

Had a weekend in Arran. Lots of outer catchers, common sandpipers, rock pipit, meadow pipit, redpoll, whitethroat and lots of stonechats. There was a reported sighting of a minke whale off Blackwaterfoot but we missed that. |
