We had an eagle owl on the North York Moors a couple of years back. Very much an escapee. From memory it caused some consternation in terms of wild vs introduced bird and its impact on the resident species.

I glanced out of my side window yesterday and caught sight of what I decided was a young sparrowhawk as it seemed quite small. I've never seen one while I've been living here (over 12 years) but I'm sure they've always been about.

The birds know that for them spring isn’t actually that far away. Great tit teacher teachering yesterday at Parkrun, and again today here, plus this morning a blackbird singing. Isn’t nature wonderful?

Lovely view of a kingfisher today, flying ahead of me along the path as I was running (quite fast). Iridescence fully caught, quite beautiful.

Fantastic, how on earth can you tell? Experience or sounds, or something else?

Pinkies are like LTT, warblers or goldcrests - I usually hear them before I see them. Today’s were unusually quiet but one ‘honk’ is enough to set me off looking up

DT has good eyesight and can see the pinkness of a foot at 300 metres.
