Golden Plover in winter plumage Flanker?

Saw my first group of 15 Redwings which were being eyed by a Sparrowhawk as they flew over.

I can see your thinking DT, and while I wish they were I'm going for GP in winter, or possible juv, plumage. They don't have the white chest band of dotterel.

um - yep. It's the big black eye that's always my clue when I'm wondering which patterned wader they are.

Can't remember if I posted this before 🤷🏼‍♂️ but in the last few weeks done a couple of "runs" on the Wolds way in East Yorkshire.
Pheasants, hundreds of them(mainly males, so even allowing for better female camouflage I'm sure there are breeders somewhere only selecting the bigger, colourful targets)*. The odd buzzard. A couple of partridges, also pretty colourful.
Hares. Saw more in one Wolds day than in last few years in Tyne and Wear.
Roe deer in the misty morning.

*and one Leucistic pheasant. All white but eye looked dark, not albino red.

Kestrel seen in silhouette hovering over the sand dunes on my run this morning.
Then starlings, robin, sparrows, great tit, magpie and fat pigeon in the garden this morning. We’ve started putting food out for them again.
Just spotted a couple of crows on the railings too

We've just had a bit of a stand off in the garden between a jay and two squirrels. The squirrels left the lid of the peanut feeder open and the jay was tucking in, then stood it's ground when the squirrels came back!

Brilliant! I have 6 magpies that are currently visiting my garden but they're quite timid and fly away if they see me near the kitchen window.

The usual autumn Woodpigeon migration made a tentative start in early clear conditions this morning but a cloud bank halted the initial hopes. Just 800 in a half hour. Need even clearer skies and a frost to stimulate the huge numbers of up to 80,000 as in previous years. Fingers crossed for the chill!
