It’s not uncommon to see a kingfisher flash past along the river at the bottom of mum’s garden, or even sit on a perch for a while. I’ve seen them fishing there, too, but this morning this one sat on the end of the fence for at least 10 minutes. Just a shame I only had my phone camera to take a picture.

Some great sightings recently. My mum gets a kingfisher flash past along the stream that cuts through their garden (I've seen it being chased by a sparrowhawk once).

Very jealous of the green woodpecker. One I'd love to see but don't get many in the North east so not had the joy yet.

The birds i see most in my garden (or from it) apart from corvids and pigeons are green woodpecker, nuthatch and buzzard. Mainly because the smaller birds hide in the holly and aren't as obvious.

Sure this conversation has come up before about the variation of birds considered common in different areas. I rarely see Jay's and get excited when I do, but know they are really common elsewhere. Whereas I see lots of bullfinches which others say they never see. You every quickly take for granted the birds you see often which others would love to see.

I see dipper most days but maybe one bullfinch per year. We can hear curlew from our garden in the spring but I don’t think I’ve ever seen chaffinch in our (big, but open) garden

In my garden (rural) the birds I see in the biggest numbers are blue tits, chaffinches and wood pigeons. Fewer numbers but almost guaranteed to see GSW, great tits, blackbirds and at this time of year pheasants and crows. Plus lots of other birds that I might see one day but not the next.

Very different to my previous suburban garden which was mostly sparrows and starlings.

Did someone mention dippers? Never seen one, bullfinch is also a rarity. Yet in the garden this morning I've seen gsw, chiffchaff, greenfinches and a grey wagtail. I'll be watching curlew in the fields all winter, but by match they're all starting to move on

Roberto interesting!
Lots of bulfinches here, no Jay and just this morning, when I walked around my meadow/food forest, there was one! First time seeing one here.
However, woodpeckers, especially green ones, are 13 to a dozen! Even the LSP makes a regular appearance.
Also both sparrow and goshawks. I hear the latter more than I see them.
