Took a different route into Leazes park earlier and had a good view of a colourful male bullfinch perched in bushes.

Lots of herring gull chicks through the holiday park, will no doubt soon be updating the seagull attack thread. One of my mates has posted a picture from his run, has already had quite a bad attack, three went for him, his whole head is blood red
Have to say I have a sneaky admiration for a bird that will go to those lengths to protect its young

Great run this morning, took in most of the different local habitats and saw most of the regulars I see. Song thrush, buzzard, blackbirds, goldfinches, Reed buntings, swifts, swallows, housemartins, wren, larks, greenfinches, robin, shelducks, little terns, little Egrets, kestrel, chiffchaff and when I got home the blue tit pair were on the feeders feeding a fledgling. Only the one unfortunately, but from what I've heard, not a great blue tit year, so one successful fledgling is still a success

That’s a great variety bonnets.
We had three new to us sightings today as we spotted reed bunting, reed warbler and sedge warbler.

Ran a grim half marathon race in hot conditions this morning, the misery a little alleviated by the frequent singing of yellowhammers, whitethroats and, at one point, a cuckoo.
bonners, I was watching a blue tit feeding a single chick in the garden today. Yes, small brood, but a success nonetheless.

HowFar?
There were a few mayflies hatching on the River Drowes yesterday. There were also some damselflies (banded demoiselle) - the males look like they have a big thumb print on their wing. A heron stalked around for a while and a dipper bobbed around on some rocks up at the top end of the river, where it flows out of the lough.

Nice report HF?
We did a group run this morning and I was just smiling to myself about the willow warbler singing one side of the path and the blackcap on the other when someone said what are those birds? I was was desperate for a chiffchaff to make the set up but it wasn’t to be. Still some curlew and lapwing about plus two singing skylark

In Devon visiting the folks, highlights from this morning's run were the swifts.
Also saw a peregrine with a gull chick I presume being chased by gulls, went out of sight before I saw the outcome of the chase

At Crosby, two mature black swans were sharing the boating lake with 30 or more of the white swans and assorted water birds. A pair has visited twice in the last 18 months, from Martin Mere, it is thought. The feathers along their backbone are wavy, with what looks like a 'parting' along the spine. Their bright red beaks added to their grace & beauty.

Fragile Do Not Bend
Bullfinch in the garden. It’s already on my list as I had a brief sighting of one a couple of years ago, but I was starting to doubt myself.
