Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Think I saw the owls again today but was difficult to tell. Further into the woods this time but could hear the screeching so tried to spot them and then saw 2 large brown birds fly between the trees. Sounded like the owls from the other day but can't be 100% certain as it was in thick tree cover.

I’ve never heard them but young LEO are said to make a sound like a creaking door :-)

flanker, yes, they're May bugs, but this year could be called June bugs! As regards mayflies, I've seen quite a lot of them, but not the huge swarms of normal years, so I suspect I've missed the main 'explosion' event, or maybe it occurred in dribs and drabs this year.

Mayfly is a misnomer. In terms of fly fishing the peak of the hatch is usually the first week of June. My guess is they’ll be even later this year. Bluebells here were very late this ‘spring’

Tons of mayflies here in the last week or so; more than one species, but I haven't looked closely enough to ID them.

Everything seems to be 3-4 weeks behind here.

The swans that I photographed on their nest (5 eggs) on 7th April are still sitting on 5 eggs - I think that's 9 weeks. Surely much too long to still be incubating the same clutch?

35 to 42 days = maybe six weeks

apparently is typical

I don’t know much about swans - could they have lost one set and these be a second batch?

I hope that's the case rather than they are sitting on a failed batch in vain
