Ocelot Spleens, I have never knowingly seen a whimbrel. That's a bird I'd love to add to my list.

Now is a good time for whimbrel. It’s worth learning the call (I think it’s a quite distinctive maybe seven note repeated phrase; it’s a while since I’ve been anywhere to think about it) and certainly looking out for 2/3 size curlew where you’d expect curlew (mainly on the coast). Their eye stripe game is strong too. As with other migratory waders early autumn is maybe the best time because this years young migrate south for the first time

We're seeing far fewer chaffinches and greenfinches these days, I don't know why. Wall to wall goldfinches, great tits and bluetits, though.

Goldfinch more common here than chaffinch. Greenfinch sadly rare. Never seen a hawfinch

Out walking a couple of days ago I spotted some hares. We watched for ages, 4 of them and we decided it was a mother and 3 nearly grown up youngsters. They knew we were there, as did a couple of deer we'd seen earlier in the distance.

Just dropping by.

I had a Sparrowhawk on my fence on Thursday, trying to shelter under a not-very waterproof holly tree. I grabbed my good camera but it's been such a long time I've been out and about with it the battery was flat, so here's a rather grainy mobile phone zoom instead. I live in urban Cowley, Oxford, so this is a bit unusual!
