Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Two cuckoos :)

I still haven't heard one close to home yet, but definitely two separate very insistent cuckoos on my run today.
It was interesting to hear just how noisy all the birds got just before it started thundering and then raining.

I happened to look out of my lounge window yesterday and saw a heron flying past.

Knew it was something special DT - we’ve seen females there before but on a walk on the other side of the valley so knew they were about. Dave said Gull on first sight but it was the wrong flight. I’ve got a photo or two - but they’re too far away. Watched it for a couple id minutes before it went.

I thought it was straight away but I’m always to nervy I’ll get it wrong 😝 (Guillimot Penguin a prime example 😉)

I have regularly spotted penguins ;) I have a tendency to call puffins penguins. Too, similar to calling February September and September February. No idea why!

So the greenfinch visitor has become a pair. But highlight of the day was a GSW in the garden on the feeders. Then went along every fence post to the field checking for any insects.

Mrs Goosander had 6 chicks on the river today. Still no idea where she nests. I might put a box up and see if we can get a second pair nesting next year.

There were plenty of sandmartins skimming over the river this evening and another cuckoo. I was hoping to see some signs of salmon in the river, but perhaps yesterday’s rain didn’t really raise the water level enough to persuade any fresh fish to come in from the sea. It will be a few weeks before the grilse run is in full swing.

Finally, last as always with the swifts, but four putting a display on over the house this morning. I guess they're just arriving as have already moved on.
