Lots of wrens giving it laldy in the park today. I spotted one because it was putting so much effort to singing, the leaves were shaking.

bonners
Little terns heard, but not seen yet Most fun was pointing them out on the sign to my mother in law and explaining the three inch picture was actual size, which is why they are called little. Also telling her the area with natterjack toads is fenced off to stop them attacking the terns😁

Starling on our fence today. This is not an uncommon spot round here by any means, but it means that the fat ball feeders are under threat if they do spot them...... they were annihilated a couple of years ago..... And one of the bastard pigeons is *already* after our green, and very tiny, cherries. *angry face* |

Fragile Do Not Bend
Day out to Dungeness today. Not much to see on the water but plenty of warblers and the like so I concentrated on trying to photograph them. I’ve got to go through the pictures and try and work out which warbler is which Loads of marsh frogs croaking away at the moment, almost drowning out the bird calls at times! Common terns (I think) are nesting on a raft on one of the lakes and I got to see them trying to see off a herring gull that invaded their raft. |

swittle
Talking of swifts, friends in Suffolk have had nest boxes in their garden for five years to date. Terry has sent me a couple of videos of a swift in a box, preening thoroughly. He's sending me some more links this week. Shall I try to post them? He's fine about that.

These are WeTransfer links - I have used this facility in the past without a problem. we.tl [available for 7 days] we.tl [available for 4 days] My friends' commentary on the first listed vid.: "Both Swifts have now returned - they mate for life and although they seem to have travelled separately they've both arrived in their UK home. We think that it was the male that arrived after the female. Lots of preening going on and, to our eyes, a real bond and affection between them. Plus lots of manouvering to manage those long wings." |
