And maybe a trip to the end of the spit & back, if the ferry is running and I can organise timing to match low tide.

first swift reported to the local OC yesterday (not by me). Are others seeing more butterflies about in the last few days? Yesterday was good here for orange tips, but it's been a quiet start this year.

Swallows are properly here now. Not just the B+B crowd at the Res but buzzing the roof tops round the house this morning 😀

Which reminds me. There was a piece on R4 on Weds about the fall in Swallow numbers. IIRC their numbers have dropped 29% in the last 5 years! 😯

I went to Lymington um, you seem to get different birds up that end.

I've just been for a run and heard a cuckoo in my local woods, must be the first time for years. Also saw one of my swallows.

My first singing Reed Warbler of the year this morning in its usual place. And on the same date as last year! Plus a Cettis of course.
LSW and gropper I've seen only rarely over my lifetime's birding, LSW being the rarest.
No hirundine yet for me and obviously no Cuckoo (not heard locally for donkeys years)

Went back to my old haunt of the river walk yesterday, was pleasantly surprised to see a large flick of house martins. Don't think there were any sand martins as they looked too clean. Also plenty of pairs of shelduck.

Not a bird, but something I spotted in the garden which I've never seen before, a dark edged bee fly, if I've got the name right. Fascinating creature, amazing to see how it gets the pollen.

Still no swallows here but I have a very noisy goldfinch singing from the top on one of my apples trees, I'm assuming Mrs goldfinch is sitting. :)
