Lol! 👋 Last time I was at Rufford I saw an Otter in the lake. Stonechat was a bird we thought we might see but we neither saw or heard any today.

Saw the little bird with a black head and white collar again this morning.

I *think* it's a Reed Bunting... but could be a Stonechat. Reed Bunting most likely with the distribution. It didn't strike me as being so pale bellied as the Reed Bunting looks in pictures but I didn't think "it has a reddish belly" either.

Also saw a Lapwing giving a Jackdaw a good seeing to. But I'm not sure it was going to win as the Jackdaw was not for giving up. They divebombed into what I thought was the other Lapwing but turned out to be an innocent Oyster Catcher bystander.

There’s no such thing as an innocent oyk ;-)

Reed buntings look a bit like house sparrows in shape and general appearance. Stonechat are shorter and much dumpier. Half a stonechat is its head

I think it was a Reed Bunting then. A Stonechat would be an odd sighting up here as well I think.

Oooo. Just seen a pair of buzzards doing a courtship display flight I think. Right above the house.

At my client earlier, we had Richard the woodsman to create a clearing in their small wood. Richard: oh, look, a buzzard! It was a Sparrowhawk plucking a pigeon! At 3 metres from us, totally unperturbed. Fabulous!

I ran the same route this evening as the other day; today there were two separate fields rammed full with golden plover, plus the usual curlew and lapwing, some very vocal redshank and a couple of oyks.

The wheatear seem to be back in force, and I heard the first snipe of the year drumming (this seems early to me).

I’ve been out for my morning dog walk and thought I’ve still only seen the one swallow. Lovely views of singing blackcap, mistle and song thrush both seen, distant drumming GSW plus a pesky great tit singing an unfamiliar little song reminiscent of pied flycatcher

Perfect coastal walking day yesterday so I took myself off and managed to identify a few birds: lapwing, redshank, bar tailed godwits, black tailed godwits, oyster catchers, avocets, little terns, amongst others.
