Steve, Woodpigeon movements have definitely picked up through here in the last couple of days. I saw a report of over 4000 passing through here early this morning and there were big flocks in the fields round the Erewash Valley on my walk this morning.
Also lots of winter thrushes. There were substantial flocks of both Redwing and Fieldfare doing there best to strip the hedges of every available berry.
Three separate pairs of Stonechat which was nice to see and good views of a Kingfisher were other highlights.

Locally both are birds of the Spring/Autumn as they move to and from higher ground but at both ends of this summer I've seen more this year than I can recall seeing before.

While waiting for the kettle to boil this morning a jay landed in the garden. Then another, then a magpie so the jays flew off. Then there was a flurry of blackbirds and tits in the hawthorn tree. The tits are so fast, I have trouble identifying them but I think there are blue, great and long tailed.

The Woodpigeon movement took off as expected with the clear skies and temperature drop. Not as many as the best days in recent years but "up there" with some 45,000 flying south west in two and a half hours. Biggest numbers between 7.30am and 8am with c 17,000 passing. I wondered what "my" solitary" garden woody thought about it all! 15 Long Tailed Tits and 2 Goldcrests in the garden too.

Several Skylarks singing and displaying this morning. Making the most of the sunshine.
I saw several yesterday as well but they were in small flocks and more focussed on feeding.
