Thanks DT, was going to blow them up a bit, but too blurry. Definitely had the red legs which made me think redshanks, just surprised at the numbers.

As for the teal, I'm looking at my guidebook again and looking at the head colours for winter I'm now thinking wigeon 😁😁

I spotted a widgeon. Keep ‘em peeled for the mohawk. They can often be found on the grass surrounding water. Great whistling call too. Very evocative

A couple or three other birds to look out for in that type of environment - among the redshanks look out for a spotted redshank. Really smart looking with a sharp pointy bill - also scan the edge of the water for a snipe. More likely in fresh water than salt but always worth a check. One other is greenshank. Does what it says on the shank ;-)

Thanks very much DT, some great tips as usual 👍 Loving it along there at the moment. The mud is about a foot deep to get to the good spots on the river, so I had it to myself today

I’m extremely envious. I love those brackish, estuarine environments

I’ve lived in a river valley for well over twenty years - the Derbyshire Derwent in the late 90’s and through the millennium. The Wharfe from 2004 to 2017. And the Worth since moving from the Wharfe and now very nearly three years

The duck in the penultimate pic looks distinctly wigeonous to me :-)

It's my favourite duck - in the Winter thousands of them gather to graze on the North Norfolk coast and the noise is gorgeous heart

I haven't seen a dipper for over 24 hours now. Shocking ;-)

The Scribbler
Made the first improvements to our new garden after moving into our new ho e a week ago. We now have a water bath and hanging feeders with mixed seeds, fat balls and some dried mealworms in a shallow dish to attract the birds.

Only herring gulls and starlings seen at a distance so far. Need to be patient.

Love the dipper sightings. When we're out of lockdown I'll head into the mountains via Aber Falls, I know a lot of locals see them on that river
