I'm always a little puzzled why I don't see swallows or housemartins where I live, which is green suburban housing about a mile from the edge of town. We get loads of swifts but I've never seen a swallow or housemartin from my house or garden. Incidentally, last week's wholly unexpected red-legged partridge apparently spent quite a bit of time pecking around next door neighbour's garden. Bold adventurer!

Swift and hirundines seem to be localised. Where I used to live was very good for swift and house martin but less so swallow. Here is frankly crap. We did have a breeding pair of swallow two years ago mind

D2 I had a single Swallow above the High Peak Trail about 4 days ago. It was actually heading in your direction. 😀 I'm guessing there are more on the Res in their usual places round the Visitors Centre but with that officially closed I'm steering my runs to the more remote paths and don't really get a very good view of the best areas for hirundine.
Four Jays together this morning making a right noise. I suspect it may have been boundary dispute between two pairs. I don't think I've ever seen more than two simultaneously before?

I've just realised that I've been sitting in the garden drinking coffee for the last 5 minutes listening to a willow warbler without realising.

Spotted a blue tit going under the eaves with nesting material, that particular spot gets used by blue tits every year.

jacdaw, that's lovely. I really rate the willow warbler song - rather melancholy and wistful, I think. They seem to have stopped coming to my local path, where I run most days, and I really don't know why because nothing has changed there. I used to hear loads of them there from mid-April onwards but I've hardly heard any in the last 2-3 years. They do occur not far away, though.

Just above the grassy area where the Ilkley Moor fell raced starts is excellent for WW. Where we are near Haworth is a real struggle
