My red mason bees are up and about. About the same time as usual. I've seen small tortie, comma and peacock butterflies, which is early, but they all hibernate, so appear as soon as it warms up. Lots of big queen bumble bees too, not sure of spp.

Saw rather than just heard my first Blackcap this morning and heard my first WW. Lots of activity as I went along the Res path. It doesn't take nature long to expand into space vacated by man.

Hoping there will be fewer squashed lapwing chicks on the roads this year.

The Scribbler
Very excited to see a pair of goldfinches on the roof this morning. I'm right beside the coast, with a concrete back yard and my best view is from my writing den 4 stories up, so it's mainly herring gulls and crows. Lovely to see a smaller garden bird and something so easily identifiable.

Love HF?'s comment "I'm having to make do with the call of a curlew...."

We found where the Ring-necked Parakeets are roosting/nesting over on the Wedge yesterday, pretty hard trying to find the green bird in the green tree that was making onehellofanoise!!

I was outside a few minutes ago and heard a familiar but unfamiliar sound - a swallow. I just caught sight of it heading northbound as it flew over the house

Rosehip
about to post almost exactly the same as Phal - haven't seen the sparrowhawk for a long while (3 or 4 years?) not sure what it got, a few brown and grey feathers on the lawn!
