Lovely owly noises last night (no idea what type!). And 10m from a perched buzzard on Sunday am, combined with the ever-non-spottable woodpeckers bashing away at the trees. One of the benefits of not running with headphones!

The cuckoos have started moving. I saw some satellite tracking data last week that showed them heading this way. I don't think they had got to Europe, though. bto.org |

Well, it seemed a bit unlikely. I googled it when we got home, and mid-April is the traditional date, not mid-Feb. Plus it was a bit urban - the rough end of Folkestone, but being only 20 miles or so from Europe we do see a lot of migrants (of all sorts) Perhaps someone still has a cuckoo clock. Thanks for the BTO link. Quite interesting stuff. |

You don't need to wait that long DT. Just get yourself to Derbyshire (Carr Vale at J29a on M1). There has been both a Siberian and nominate Chiffchaffs there for the last few weeks. Derbyshire always first
