I've just used the RSPB bird ID page to try to work out what the unusual bird I was this evening was. It was flying up an down over the reeds at the side of the irrigation reservoir.

The ID thingy came up with Grey Shrike - and it looks right - but then it said:
UK wintering: 62 birds
UK passage: 125 birds

- so not very likely?

Any idea what it could have been?

Check your county birdwatching site, any rarities will be highlighted. Assuming it was in Bedfordshire from your running club, it might be on

DT first Redwings of the winter were reported local to me in the middle of the week. Only 2 or 3 but they're definitely here.
