I saw a big flock of winter thrushes in a field this morning. Seemed odd amongst singing skylarks, meadow pipits and "summer" waders (curlew, lapwing, oystercatcher and redshank). Probably flocking up to go, I suppose.
Lots of chiffchaff around at last, but still no wheatears. I'm looking out for sand martins.

Blackaps are "everywhere" around my locality with one loudly singing in the garden in the dark early this morning. Willow Warbler singing in the garden later too. Two Cetti's singing not far from home. GSW drumming.

Very nice!
Another new patch tick today and a great example of the power of the jizz: male bullfinch - only seen briefly but nothing else has that fantastic combination of morning suit grey and bright pinky red

Rubbish morning run today, cut short as feeling a bit yucky. If I hadn't turned round, wouldn't have seen my first wheatears of the year. More than made up for the run.

First swallow spotted singing loudly on a wire above Coventry farmland a greater spotted woodpecker dropped down briefly to an old log close by, a pair of goldfinches played in the greening hawthorn hedge and a sparrowhawk displayed sprint acrobatics on the far skyline. Lovely patch of sunshine in an otherwise overcast day
