Pair of Goosander on the river at Pooley Bridge on Friday evening and as we dropped off Great End on Saturday the guy who's Joss I was supporting picked out a Ring Ouzel singing (Flanker, it was indeed a bit damp underfoot in places and the clag was thick until after Dunmail but time wise it didn't seem to make much difference to our man and he got round in just under 13 hours which is a fast time for a 55+ round. The afternoon sunshine was very pleasant and we fair motored over the last leg from Styhead despite its gnarlyness. Though I am still wondering if the family group we passed as we skittered down the Gable screes are still up there! I strongly suspect they had intended to take the conventional "tourist" path.)

A wander out this afternoon was rewarded by a singing and visible Willow Warbler (my first of the year) and my first Little Ringed Plover of the year, with a bonus Bar-Tailed Godwit as a bonus. Also saw a single Swallow flash by and a couple of Mandarins that had managed to wedge themselves onto a birdtable by one of the hides. Day out to near Lincoln tomorrow.

A weekend in Gdansk, northern Poland had 2 hooded crows (jackdaws more common) and 2 white storks! Excited by them, one was on a big nest, on the chimney of a cottage...

Yay, spring reaches north Wales, first swallows in plentiful numbers as well, all along the seafront as well. Also, first Martins as well, not too sure if sand or house though as didn't come close enough or still enough. More wheatears, a couple of stonechat, a curlew in the harbour, a different all rounded off by a chilling harbour seal, great morning run😀

Visited Whisby near Lincoln today and it seemed every tree had a Blackcap in it, lots of Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff too but apart from a brief sighting of two Sand Martins by some of the group there was a complete absence of Hirundines. Also great views of a pair of Mediterranean Gulls in amongst the large number of Black Headed Gulls. Got an extended opportunity to compare the two and see the distinct differences.
