Med gulls are ace. Real black heads and more like a hood that BHG. You’re lucky ff. Great to see them together :)

Mediterranean gulls are like black-headed gulls with Italian dress sense.

A delight in my garden yesterday, a solo Goldfinch perched at the top of the unknown tree singing its heart out. I can't remember ever hearing one sing before, but that's probably because i haven't recognised the song.

Goldfinch is a good song to learn because greenfinch is kind of similar, but like the bird, not as bright

J2R that is a great description :-)

Absolutely DT. It was really great to be able to compare how everything about them is brighter and bolder than the BhGs. You don't really appreciate how much the BhG's head colouring is black/brown and more of a face mask until you see the two side by side.

It's a "good year" around here for Blackcaps and Willow Warblers...more than usual singing. Cettis singing daily and first Reed Warbler singing today.

No willow warblers, reed warblers or swallows here yet (as of yesterday, on my local route). Blackcaps and chiffchaffs singing away, though, and a loud nuthatch. I feel the need to go out and check my patch again now, as the warmer weather may have brought some new arrivals today.

Well, still no willow warblers or swallows. But, my first whitethroat of the year, up close, clearly visible, singing away! Quite unexpected - I cannot recall whitethroat occurring before willow warblers here before. A Cetti's as well, plus another couple of nuthatches. Lovely sunny day out there.
