We are weeks behind. Blackcap just arrived. There’s a few spots on the new patch that I fancy for a gropper - the only problem is it’ll be Xmas before one might arrive

This may be a silly question, but anyway..... Tonight I walked up through my town and heard a lot of screaming swifts. I was obviously excited and went to investigate. No swifts. Noise stopped, started again. There are nest boxes high on a gable wall. Do people use sound recordings to attract swifts to nests? The screaming sounded a bit 'repeated' after a while

Starlings can do ‘good swift’. I love swifts and have been caught out more than once. In two weeks they’ll be here anyway!
I’m going for a walk tonight with our Tuss: target bird(s) common sand, willow warbler, pied fly

Blackcap singing in the garden this morning as I sat out having breakfast - and what a delight it is to be able to do that!
As DT says, starlings are good mimics. We often have them doing green woodpeckers, which is confusing.

What a difference a little bit of warm weather makes! First sedge warblers of the year this morning, and bluebells making their first, slightly tentative, appearance. Also an abundance of blackcaps singing their hearts out.
