Nice. I’ve been at home all day and apart from a few starnies haven’t seen anything

We were up on Kinder the last weekend, and that had a touch of snow then, Derwent Edge had quite a bit the weekend before, more further in across Crowden and Bleaklow.

Pleased to see the great tits are nesting again, in what is actually a sparrow box (which no sparrow has been anywhere near, to my knowledge). They have successfully nested there before but last year were put off by our cats who had a habit of sitting on the roof of the nestbox. This year I've rigged up something with chicken wire so the cats can't get at it. I'm hoping it works!

Having been briefly honoured by Swallows last weekend today as I left the village and headed up into the clag on route to the first Lakeland round support of the spring I was greeted by the sight of a sizeable flock of Fieldfares (and maybe Redwings) in their usual winter location! Not sure I've ever seen them there so late.

I imagine it was a bit boggy on a lot of the fells for a fast round!
