Back on my home patch this week so Vulture numbers are down but through the swirling snow this morning I was treated to the first Curlew calls of the year. Also a rather spendid male Goldeneye on his regular patch at the 'home' end of the res.

Swirling snow with curlew calling is a grand totp. Skylarks year round near me, they’ve been singing all February, beautiful but seems just wrong. It’s very cold but dry here this year.

Decided to ignore the snow armageddon warnings this morning and headed off as planned to Potteric Carr near Doncaster. Despite being tucked right up against the M18 this neat little site yielded 54 species and apart from a few short snow showers, lots of sun and blue sky. Numerous views of a pair of Marsh Harriers, a Kingfisher making a catch and then bashing it on a branch before consumption, lots of woodland birds and waterfowl and more Treecreepers than I think I've ever seen in one day, they seemed to be everywhere. Definitely worth the 5 minute diversion off the M18 if your passing, excellent cafe as well

I’ve been up in Scotland as far as Dundee the last couple of days. Oystercatchers everywhere including in the fields by the canal leaving Skipton and my way out. Also saw a red kite

Something of a Robin fest round here today. Three (temporarily four at one point) in a permanent battle round the food I've put out. Can't help but think they'd all do better if they stopped chasing one another off but I guess they aren't programmed on the basis that I will keep topping up the supply. And five around the feeding point I pass on my morning run (they seemed to be playing much more nicely!). Also spotted a male Brambling mixed in amongst the Chaffinchs at another feed point

Breakfast at mine today it seems. As well as the three Robins and all the usual suspects (Blue, Great and LT Tit, Dunnock) I currently have three male Blackbirds within two feet of one another plus a single female and I've had visits from Jackdaws, Woodpidgeon and a Song Thrush in the last fifteen minutes.

I saw a couple of snipe yesterday, one by the river. Not in the usual spots. They might be struggling; we have over 12 inches of snow.
