Blackbird party has just been gate crashed (rather aggressively) by a Fieldfare, which is definitely a first for the small patio within six feet of the window. Real good close up of it's colours. :-)

Fieldfare is back this morning, as are all the Blackbirds and Robins. Good job I'd stocked up with bird food!

Highlight of the day so far though was a group of around 30 Whooper Swans on the res during my run. By far the biggest group of these infrequent visitors I've seen here.

Looking at the Derbyshire reports for yesterday quite a few people seem to have had out of the ordinary visits to their gardens from Fieldfare and Redwing in the last couple of days. Mine is very aggressive with the Blackbirds and that seems to be a fairly common observation.

I've just had a Fieldfare in the garden too - first time ever I think. I've certainly never seen one before

My Fieldfare was bullied by a Blackbird so its hoped for meal was a mere starter! Anyone remember "Swoop" bird food (1960's!)?

Walking along the river loads of different birds, saw redwing, fieldfare in the hedges and redshank and small waders on the river Bank. Loads of small birds I didn't recognise though, similar to sparrows?

I'm on the river and the birds are very visible today. Magpies, crows, blackbirds, wagtails, gulls. Not many pigeons in evidence.

The lake I work at on weekends now has otters.

A big flock (50+) of curlew in the frozen fields in the Aire Valley this morning, which was ace to see but then I saw a woodcock fly over the road as I was heading West on the M65 later. Fabulous bird - like a snipe that had been on the pies :)
