um
Random info - that walk was my first day officially 'retired'. So it sticks in my memory. |

Oh, I’ve only been up Skiddaw when it’s clear! All the same, if I was in that area for one walk only I’d probably go up Blencathra instead tbh. I realise that’s just stirring it up though, sorry! |

Both?! Park at Latrigg car park, up Skiddaw, across to Mungrisdale and up Blencathra and down Blease Fell. 12 mile circular walk.

I once had to crawl the final yards to the summit of Skiddaw because it was so windy. My favourite route up is probably from Bassenthwaite (Ullock Pike, Carl Side). Easiest route up, tourist route via Jenkin Hill, even easier if you park at the car park near Latrigg, and skip Spooney Green Lane. Interesting option via Lonscale. My favourite route down is Skiddaw House via Sale How, or down to Whitewater Dash via Bakestall, then Skiddaw House. |

paulcook That second link has reminded me, does anyone know a good Apple app for mountain weather? I can't find the one I used to use (it may have been discontinued). Failing it I might bookmark that link on my phone. We were recommended XC weather by the mountain guides when we were on Skye. They occasionally use different mountain names e.g. Blencathra comes up as Saddleback, doesn’t seem to recognise Skiddaw though. In fact, it’s not so great for the Lakes as I’m searching for stuff - I’ll keep it here as an idea because it’s fabulous for Scottish Munroes and other places! |

That’s disappointing - we used it all the time in Scotland!

I once had to crawl the final yards to the summit of Skiddaw because it was so windy. I remember crawling to the summit of An Stuc on my third attempt in a whiteout & a raven appearing. It was like some mad GOT shit. We thought we’d need to make a snow hole on the descent, but thankfully didn’t. |
