It's very tempting (I know I'm butting into the conversation here), but the extra hour plus to get there and back when we are planning to be walking from Hardknott Pass later just doesn't quite work.

Much as I love The Lakes, I'd still take the Pyrenees or Alps given the chance. Or the Himalayas/Annapurna.
Actually, it's so cold in the house at the moment, I could easily be persuaded by an all-inclusive sun-worshipping break to the Caribbean.
But I'll have to make do with the Lakes this weekend though

I was looking at Namibia... I had a last minute offer on the trip I had booked (and paid for) in 2020... Flights are now 3x as expensive and few and far between so I'd be travelling for 36 hours in stead of 18 as well. Cost of the trip also up hugely... I then thought Europe and now I am thinking Lakes... It always felt like being abroad and like a holiday, even if only there for 2 nights...

Much as I love The Lakes, I'd still take the Pyrenees or Alps Same. The Pyrenees in particular is a very special place and nowhere near as busy as the Alps. My visit there a few months back has opened up a world of possibilities.
