There's quite a few on Amazon - that being one of them. Just not sure of the real quality of them. There's generally not many reviews and ratings are variable. One's looking like the guide books would be great but can't see those anywhere.

The Walkers Guide Log Books - I can see quite a few second hand vol 1, no new.
Vol 2 has a few new ones around. Even on Amazon, I think
Have yet to spot a Vol 3

Ooh - just found that Amazon have the seven book set for £27. Seems incredibly reasonable. The frequently bought together package on this page looks promising

The set of guides is a good investment. The other 2 would be a real bonus if that's part of your budget.

Another alternative / addition would be subscription to OS Premium Maps - so he can access OS maps at any time. And/or the Lake District coverage so he doesn't need a phone signal when in the remoter parts?

This all looks good :) . I hadn't heard of the walkers guides and they didn't come up in my initial amazon search. Looks like there's just the two - one covers 3 guides and the other 4. I've ordered a second hand set - apparently without any annotations (we shall see!). I shall check with Mrs TR re the set of three from Amazon. If we go for that I can decide which log book - the walkers guides or the one in the amazon group - we give him. I'll keep the other logbook(s) in case I take up the challenge after I retire at Christmas ;) .
Thanks for the suggestions and pointers

We've both got premium OS subscriptions already. I love it, both for planning on a large desktop screen and while out and about :)
