Mr ZipOff has just released a bulletin that links to the LDNPA case officer's notes on the subject. It makes very interesting reading. I think my reservations were unfounded, this is dead and buried :-)

eL Bee!
Just leave it to the County Council to repair it.

It'll be back to its original state in about 2 years :)

Any hints for good walks from the Duddon Valley ?

Staying at the western end of Walna Scar road for a week in April, so will be exploring new areas. Will probably do Dow Crag from the cottage, and drive out to some western and/or southern fells, but any suggestions would be welcome

How about heading up to Dunnerdale from Broughton Mills? Very quiet and exceptionally lovely round there. I was thinking to maybe do the start of the Cumbrian Traverse, so Great Stickle and Stickle Pike before turning to the NE and Caw, White Maiden etc. Not far to Dow Crag from there.

Alternately, if you want some less aggressive terrain I've found the Blawith Fells to be lovely and great running, I remember once doing a big circuit that took us up the W side of Coniston then up the Old Man and on to Dow Crag.

um
If Dow Crag is walkable, it's only a bit further to the Coniston/Swirl How 'ridge' (?is there a proper name for that?)
(Have walked down via Goat's Water a few times, but never back up Dow Crag.
Have also walked at the far end - Black and White Combe make a change (done those while daughter had a day horse riding at Cumbrian Heavy Horses)
