Doddick one Saturday afternoon. A steady run down (like I’d be doing anything else) and a ring ouzel away to my right. On my own for some reason and a feeling that I actually belonged there

I'm heading up to Cockermouth for a couple of weeks. We are taking bicycles even though neither of us are cyclists, but I have no chance of getting OH hiking! Can anyone recommend some (shortish, flattish) circular routes?

People's favourite parts of the Lakeland 100 route for a stroll? Will just be a gentle recce walking with the 🐶?

Westmoors - There are lots of nice quiet roads around Cockermouth. You can ride to the coast along some nice country roads/trails which are signposted as Route 71.
I also have a nice quiet circular route (with a little bit of climb) that goes around Fellbarrow and along the side of Loweswater and Grassmoor which is really picturesque. I can PM you some details if you like.

^^ That should be Grasmoor! The stupid people who named my house Grassmoor View couldn't spell and have now got me at it!

ac, pretty much anything from Braithwaite onwards really, but if you want a nice scenic stroll with the hound, Spooney Green Lane around the valley along Glenderaterra beck down the Blencathra Centre is a nice stroll, and can easily be made circular. Kentmere to Ambleside also very practical.

Thanks Simon. Could I please take you up on the offer of the details of the Fellbarrow route.

Thanks Flanker. Some food for thought. I've done quite a bit of the Lakes as a kid rambling with my grandmother but didn't listen when she said to keep a diary of where we'd been. Not that I'd remember now anyway! Or paying attention to routes while doing a few races up there as all were marked.

I noticed some people doing a walking event as part of Keswick mountain festival today. It seems that there is a route marked out for entrants, who get a number to pin on, and a start time. They then trot round the route (18 miles today; cat bells, walla crag, latrigg), get a finish time and a t shirt. There is no support en route, no food or drink. It costs £34 for an adult. Is it just me, or is that £34 for pretty much nothing?
