I had a discussion on this subject with none other than Ronnie Bowron (one of the UKs top hill baggers and summit-hunters) and I thought I had clarity on it, I will dig it out later on. I do recall that what is termed Miller Moss was properly surveyed a couple of years back, there's an article on the BBC website reporting a "new Lake District Summit"

That's the discussion I was remembering um Have a short LD trip on my own ( ) from next Sun - trying to see how much I can fit in but away from the worst busy-ness and boggy-ness (which might rule out the above maybe) |

We've just booked our holiday for October, we were hoping to go back to the Lakes but the places with what we wanted have increased their prices too much to justify it this time. Back to mid Wales instead this time!

That's a shame, Gooner - I hadn't noticed a price increase, just everything I was looking at for October being fully booked! Online, the 1:50k shows the spoy at 610 as Miller Moss, zoom in to 1:25K and Miller Moss is the moss and the spot is un-named still as pile of stone just south of Iron Crag. It then has LLH at 600 to the SW - all as per NE's map on page 74. Confusing! |

I’ve just read (or re-read, I’m not sure!) the 2018 chat and I would stick with Iron Crag if I was starting again. I don’t know if the Nuttalls themselves agreed with the Miller Moss naming and I still think a moss is something else entirely. (Although I suppose Featherbed Moss for one proves that it is possible to name a hill after a marsh.) It’d be interesting to know what Ronnie thinks (although, as it’s not a TUMP, he may not be particularly interested! 😉 ) |

Sunday for at least 3 nights, got 5 booked but doubt leaving the menfolk at home to look after the dog will be popular. Didn’t realise it was the BH, it’s going to be horribly busy

Hmmm, could be "interesting"! Industrial strength earplugs and being very early into the washrooms?! Can't you use the latter half of the booking rather than the first couple of days (or does life get in the way of that)? |
