I was going to post something similar. 76 miles of the L100 did way more damage to my feet than a BG. Iโm not a fan of cushioned shoes but think of them as protection on hard rocky ground. My feet were fine after a 15 hour plus walk last year in the Dales wearing far more cushioned shoes than I would have dreamt of a few years ago

Still not convinced you need cushioning, just as FR says a shoe/sock combination that works for you ... and everyone is individual in this respect. For me it was a pair of minimal trail talons and minimal socks, and my tootsies were virtually pristine at the end of the 100k. The only blister I got was on the end of a little toe where a cap of dead skin I've been trying to get rid of for ages finally came loose. Didn't even realise I had that until the next day. C-Cat has seen these shoes as I abandoned them behind her van and then forgot them (no way they were coming in the car until they'd aired!) and she kindly retrieved them ๐ |

I think the thing is (for me anyway) foot problems are the most likely reason Iโm going to struggle on long hard ultras (Iโm lucky I donโt have problems eating). Itโs worth time and effort finding what footwear suits you whatever that is

Definitely. I spent a lot of time buying, and then selling, different shoes on eBay until I found what worked for me. I rarely have problems eating at any time (it's why I'm never at race weight!) although in Saturday's sauna I did struggle to get anything down. |

Racing per se is an alien thing for me and race weight something for other people to worry about

Still not sure I've found the ideal shoe, never mind sock - the 275Gs feel great on the ground, but are so lightly cushioned that I get slight heel pain with them. But I think that's mainly because my calves are still a bit tight and need more beating into shape. One of the guys in my B&B was raving about Injinji socks - any views on those? Tough day out, Cath - seems a shame you did half as much again horizontally and vertically as I did & don't have a t-shirt to show for it How are the feet today? |

I detest Injinis - my toes are too big for them (see above ๐) but many people swear by them. Whereas I swear by these: tekoforlife.co.uk |

Thanks! Sock experimenting is at least cheaper than with shoes ๐

I've found xsocks to be great for me.

So have I, until last weekend! I was wearing the same pair of xsock Skyrun that I wore for the Coniston Marathon. They were fine then, even with probably more bog than Saturday, but were really sticking to my feet this time.
