I reckon me and the boy took about 4 hours, left the car at 8 am and back not long after midday.
We past a lot of miserable kids slepping up the path by Grains Gill saying 'are we nearly there yet!' as we made our way back.

I *think* that's the route I did youth hostelling when I was ~13 - there would have been lots of whining and "are we there yet" then!

- and sans dog there would be some jogging - Ralph is supposed to understand "easy Jog " command - but tends to translate it as "sprint and pull me along at WR pace

Tuss is the same. He’s great on a lead running on tarmac but off the road he’s the complete opposite

I always prefer the Scafells from Wha House farm in Eskdale. Lovely (but longer) walk in along the valley, over Slight Side, up to Scafell, down to Mickledore (via Lord's rake or Foxes), up the Pike, down alongside Little Naroowcove Beck, to pick up the path along the Esk back to the start. Do it mid-week and you'll probably have the valley to yourself.

...do any walk/run in the Lakes before 10 AM and after 4 PM and you will struggle to meet another person!
When I did Slight Side, from Seathwaite, I dropped down into the valley mentioned by flanker to get back to Esk Hause. That was a warm day and I ran out of water.

I made my first real attempt at Loughrigg Fell this morning (only a year and three months since moving to Ambleside, but better late than never). Definitely picked the right day for it.

um
No jets VP?
Each time (about 4 or 5 in 40 years) I've done Loughrigg, there's been jets skimming up the valley below me.
