Cramp as a nutrition issue came from DAS in the post race interview didn't it. So even she thinks it may be linked.

Dina comment was a I'll check everything type of comment. The studio comments suggested it had to be nutrition/ hydration which is what I didn't like. |

I've done about three trillion field events this year. I've heard nearly as many complaints about measuring. Yet I can’t ever remember a disputed medal/placing at a major championship in a throwing event? There must be a bigger error (and lack of “checkability”) in those events than in LJ? |

Yego's throw in Birmingham DL was the one I recalled being remeasured etc after a foul was overturned, so not a medal one (though it did win him the comp and earn an area record). en.wikipedia.org I definitely have concerns that SP measurements may lack accuracy, yet are never disputed by competitors. Though the field judges at elite events are highly skilled, so perhaps I shouldn't dount so much! But measuring a shot put "hole" where it lands practically in a previous hole, or on a line, or doesn't sink in etc must be fraught with error. Haven't they recently changed the rulings on where feet can be in the hammer (?) based on one athlete's technique too? |

Less exalted than elite events have had problems this summer with the ground being baked so hard, making it difficult to see exactly where a discus lands. I know throwing sectors have been watered at some tracks, but it's pretty patchy.

What's this rule change about feet then, larks? I haven't heard anything (NB I've only thrown a hammer twice - extremely badly - but didn't get DQd.)

You may know the answer to this Sharkie - where is a shot put throw supposed to be measured from? Is it where the ball first hits the ground, or the front edge of the ball whether it is resting on top, sunk into the ground (at the point level with the ground) or some other point? It seems to me that a measurement on soft grass (cf last night) would often get measured shorter than a measurement on a cinder surface or onto indoor mats where in the latter two cases the mark would be the centre point of the ball as it struck the ground (well, a wide version of that) as opposed to the front edge of the ball if it sinks half deep into the grass. Wouldn't make a difference in most circumstances as they are all on the same surface, just a curiosity that occured to me last night where it looked pretty clear that they were marking from the front edge of the ball's position as it sunk in or created a nice big hole.

I think it is this in italics 32.14.2 after they have stepped into the circle and begun to make a throw, touches with any part of their body the top (or the top inside edge) of the rim or the ground outside the circle; Which has the following qualification next to it as guidance The addition of the note to Rule 32.14.2 of the Technical Rules applies to rotational techniques used by athletes in shot Put, discus Throw or Hammer Throw. It should be interpreted that any “incidental” touch of the top of the rim or the ground outside in respect of the back half of the circle during the first rotation should not, of itself, be regarded as a failure. However it is clear that any technique which thereby obtains an advantage through leverage or propulsion would constitute a failure. |

And it was shot put, not hammer - some have called it the "Ryan Crouser" rule as his technique is the one which would be at jeopardy without it. Pics here reddit.com |
