I agree. It feels like a lot needs to happen for the poorest to benefit from “cheap fuel” for their vehicle.

But overall it's not cheap transport (yet) so there's no real inequality introduced. You have to be wealthy to afford the vehicle which is then cheaper to run. It's cheaper to buy a "normal" vehicle and suffer the ongoing higher costs; in a 3-5 year window, it is still probably cheaper to run the petrol car, especially if the petrol car is 2nd hand.

I thought the magic of the free market had solved all of our problems.

For which rate TMW? Rates do vary around the country, but I didn't think they were grossly different in different localities?

Mine is approx 5p extra per kwh at both rates and is allegedly the cheapest available as per uswitch

I’m still favourable to the concept of eVehicles but I’m also conscious that they remain out of reach to many. Ironic that only the rich - the greatest polluters - can afford to be green.

I just cheekily identified from your race log a tentative home area; Octopus Go for a Reading postcode was 5p / 15.59p so not a million miles off my 5p /14.5p

I may be way off with your home area of course.

You're not wrong that there is a link between opportunities for greener life-styles and economically better off though. It's not a hard and fast link, and it's complex too.

Here's a link to the Octopus Go pricing - the 5p night rate is set in stone, so whilst you don't have an EV so there's little point in getting the tariff, it should be available to you nonetheless.
