I have nothing useful to add to this discussion except to say that my neighbour took delivery of a Tesla the other day and yesterday treated us all to a display of it dancing. I didn’t know that was a thing, it was very entertaining.

@larkim, Ioniq 5 appears to do 3.6kW which is good, but doesn't support Vehicle to Home (i.e. not via the charging cable back to the house) only via the 13A plug. That's fine for powering individual items but not for feeding back into the whole house distribution and grid. Hope your MG4 can do to the house. G

I had to google that - quite disappointed it was only a light show, was expecting some clever suspension dancing too!

Doesn't look like V2G will work with my device, they're not updating the firmware on consumer devices to allow it. Ah well, not a biggie.
Just had a quick play with Google Maps for charging locations etc and noted that this seems to have massively improved recently. On google maps search "ev charging station" to get a decent list, including the live status of some (not all) stations. Works on mobile app and web.
Now all they need to do is build in some functionality to allow for a journey's distance / time etc to be optimised for charging too and they'll be matching what other providers do.

First long trip in the Kia today, 260 miles with 3 people, luggage, and a tandem on the roof. 3.9 miles per kWh is a significant drop from our usual rate but on top of the load, a mix of motorway and hilly minor roads is probably more of a challenge than the A roads round where we live.
As I’d expected it was just fractionally outside the battery range, we topped up with 12 units and finished with about 9. And that was with rather gentle driving, the smart cruise control is really very relaxing and easy to drive at a modest speed. A lot less tiring than our noisy heavy van would have been.

Must admit driving in a relaxed way has been the main change for me in getting the EV. I don't stress about the range, but because it is less stressful to drive at 60-65 on the motorway and see the consumption remain within acceptable parameters rather than follow the more stressful driving and consumption experience in a typical 75mph (!) motorway experience.
New car day for us on 27th July. Will be sad to see the Peugeot go as it is nice to drive and use, but if I stand back it has had quite a few major issues. Maybe out of the frying pan into the MG fire though!

It's interesting how an easy-visible consumption figure influences behaviour. Maybe if fossil cars also had a smoothed short-term or instantaneous consumption figure people would drive them more economically. It shouldn't be a problem even to mandate it, given that it's done in software.

Mine does, Steve! It drives my wife mad that I drive long distances with the "current" MPG and/or the "average since start" MPG on the display. (She likes the digital speedometer readout instead, although we do also have an analogue one!)
It'll also show "Long term" i.e. since we ever reset it, or since last refuel. I quite enjoy playing the "can I get it consistently above xx MPG" on longer journeys.
On the "current" consumption it's educational to see the difference towing a caravan makes, going up and down hills makes, as well as using cruise control. Interestingly, with a caravan, I tend to be more economical than the cruise control!

Dumfries and Galloway council are increasing prices per Kwt from 25p to 55p effective from 1 August 2023. That's an eye-watering hike.
A guy I spoke to reckoned they were on course to lose £150,000 this fiscal year over their charging estate, so they needed to put up the price.

Yes, I thought most modern ICE cars had consumption meters on the dash. I think the difference is that the ££ difference between the high consumption rates and low consumption rates aren't quite as noticeable. Or maybe its just that typically EV drivers are quite efficiency conscious?
